I’m a laser source, system, and process applications engineer with over three decades of hands-on experience developing laser processes, systems, and solutions that help companies cut costs, improve reliability, and scale innovation. My journey with lasers began at Columbia University, where I earned my Ph.D. researching laser-assisted etching of indium phosphide for high-frequency optoelectronic circuits. From there, I dove into the industry at Litel Instruments and Sheldahl Micro Products, where I helped integrate excimer lasers into high-speed roll-to-roll micromachining systems—technologies still relevant today in microelectronics and flexible packaging.

Over the years, I’ve led the development of laser labs from the ground up, including multimillion-dollar facilities for high-power laser cutting and welding at Lumentum. I’ve worked with global leaders like Amada and Intel, pioneered laser scribing and patterning techniques that became patented technologies, and supported product launches for solar, semiconductor, and medical device applications. I’ve also helped companies like SiOnyx, Alien Technology, and Raydiance solve difficult laser system challenges—often improving process stability, precision, and throughput in ways that made a real bottom-line difference.

Now as an independent consultant based in the Bay Area, I partner with clients across the U.S. to evaluate laser sources, design, assemble and align laser optical systems, develop and optimize processes, as well as troubleshoot production issues. Whether I’m working on a femtosecond laser drill pattern or a kilowatt cutting setup, I bring a deep understanding of both the physics and the practical realities—and I aim to deliver solutions that are technically sound, scalable, and cost-effective.
